What Registration Actually Means Here
Hastings Racecourse & Casino operates at 188 N Renfrew St in Vancouver, BC. The property is run by Great Canadian Entertainment and falls under BCLC regulation. When people talk about “registration” here, they usually mix two very different things: signing up for a player card on the casino floor, or applying for a professional horse racing licence through the provincial system.
These are not the same flow at all. Player card enrollment is a casino product, handled by our on-site team. Racing licences sit in a government framework. If you confuse them, you end up in the wrong place and lose time.
There is no separate online casino using the Hastings brand. We do not operate any digital platform where you open a “Hastings Racecourse & Casino” account, and we are not tied to any Ontario iGaming website. Any page that claims to be an online Hastings casino with web-only registration is not our venue. The real property is a land-based location in Vancouver, supervised by BCLC and nothing else.
Player Card Enrollment at the Venue
For the player card, everything happens in person. You come through the gates, walk into the casino, and our player services desk takes it from there. You present valid photo ID, complete a simple enrollment form, and our Great Canadian Entertainment staff issue the card while you wait. There is no advance sign-up portal, no early access through an app.
The minimum age is 19 years. That is the standard for BC and we apply it across the entire property - no difference by game, section, or time of day.
In practice, getting your player card looks like this:
- Enter Hastings Park at 188 N Renfrew St using PNE Gate 6 or Gate 9.
- Come inside to the casino floor and find the player services desk.
- Show government-issued photo ID - passport, BC driver’s licence, or a comparable document.
- Confirm your age is 19 or older with staff.
- Fill in the enrollment form together with the team at the desk.
- Take your new card and activate it at a slot machine terminal, or let staff activate it for you as they instruct.
- Hold on to that card for every later visit, so your play history and any loyalty perks are tracked properly.
A small but important detail: for a first enrollment visit, come with original identification documents. Under BCLC rules we cannot accept photocopies, screenshots, or scans on a phone. If the ID is not original, the registration stalls and we cannot complete it at the desk.
Horse Racing Participant Licensing - Separate Process
Licensing for horse racing is different territory. This area is aimed at owners, trainers, jockeys, grooms, and other professional or stable-based roles, not at visitors placing a few bets at the racebook. The province of BC manages it through Horse Racing Online (HROnline), which is a BC government portal. It is not a Great Canadian Entertainment system and not controlled on-site.
Live thoroughbred racing at Hastings concluded on December 5, 2025. The racebook operation and simulcast wagering are still planned to run, and licensing rules for racing participants remain in effect under the provincial regulatory structure. Anyone working in an eligible role continues to fall under that framework.
The way HROnline usually works:
- Go to the BC government website and access the HROnline portal.
- Create a personal login using a valid email address and a secure password.
- Pick the licence category that matches your role - owner, trainer, jockey, groom, or another recognized classification.
- Upload a passport-style photo that fits the provincial technical requirements.
- Provide scans or images of government-issued identity documents.
- Add work authorization or immigration paperwork if you are not a Canadian citizen or permanent resident.
- Pay the licence fee that corresponds to your category.
- Wait until the BC horse racing regulatory body confirms approval before you take part in any licensed racing activity.
We keep these two tracks clearly divided:
| Registration Type | Who It Applies To | Governing Body | Where |
|---|---|---|---|
| Player Card Enrollment | Casino visitors, racebook bettors | Great Canadian Entertainment / BCLC | On-site, 188 N Renfrew St |
| HROnline Participant Licence | Owners, trainers, jockeys, stable staff | BC Gaming Policy and Enforcement Branch | Online via BC government portal |
If you simply want to wager at the casino or racebook, you do not need to touch HROnline at all. On the other hand, if you are a racing participant, your professional licence is handled online and the player card is an optional, separate item for gambling activity.
